THE WAR BETWEEN FROGS AND BRAHMA

It was long, long ago when the world was hit by famine and drought everywhere- no rains while rivers, streams, lakes and ponds drying up. Animals died leaving piles of skeletons, and plants withered. Even the most resistant amphibian like frogs and toads became a bag of bones.

One day, as the leader, the Frog spoke out to his kinfolks and his friends Toads: “Dear pals! It is certain that Brahma will not release rains for us. We all will die from hunger if we do nothing. So we all together must fight against Brahma to get rains. We are in danger. Death is for sure even if we do nothing or fight. So if we have no other choice, why don't we fight for our families and friends? Come on. Let's fight ".

The army of frogs and other amphibians then set off to wage war with Brahma in the heavenly castle. While crossing an open field, they came across another big army. Seeing the school of catfishes which were covered with dirt and ash of the field, the top commander of the frogs then asked: "Hey! Where do all you guys head for in such a big drove, sending the dust up into the air in front of my troops? ".

The catfish commander replied: “Pals! We were sent to join the other fish, which are very skilful in making their way through mountains and across rivers, to fight Brahman for rains to fill up rivers and streams. Come on, pals, let's go ". Hearing this, the frog commander felt delighted and told his armies about the news. Suddenly, loud chanting echoed through the ranks of the two armies, which then merged to become one and marched across dried, scorching plain.

Just a bit further, there appeared a huge dark swan of insects with buzzing sound overhead. And the chief bee and wasp shouted: Dear frogs, toads, catfish and other fish! Where are you all going in such a dirty shape?". The frog replied: "Come on, my friend bees. We understand that you all want to go to war because there is no rain, no forest trees to give you flowers to make your beehives. Hurry up! Don't be scared of dying. We band together to fight against Brahma. Let's move! The air and the ground forces cheered and move on.

Near a dried-up farm, they found water melons which came off the branches miserably lying scattered on the ground. With hope, a water melon shouted: "Friends! Let us come along, or we will die. You go to war. We would rather die than letting our families suffer". The three Anny chiefs agreed and the water melons then rolled off.

Off the field, they got into a forest where almost all of the plants and vegetation withered and succumbed. The army discovered two big rattans at the foot of a dead tree. The rattans asked: “Pleas! Where are you going in such a drove. Don’t you feel pity with your folk plants? Don’t you see? They die at the hands of Brahma. Let us join you. We feel equally miserable living in such circumstances. We would rather die in the fighting so as to win back the life for all lives on the planet. The rattans were then allowed to come along.

The army arrived at Brahma's enclave. The frog ordered the bees to prepare for the attack at the front and back gates, the fish which were covered with potash and ash to get into water jars and pots at the back doors and other containers filled with water. The two giant rattans were positioned at the entrance of the castle while the water melons had to roll low to rest under the seat of Brahma. The army of frogs and toads would launch the offensive.

After all were assigned, the amphibian army charged yelling toward Brahma's seat, frightening his celestial soldiers, concubines and servants out of the castle, only to be doused with ash and potash by the fish, making their sight so dazzled that they did not know which way to go. Worse still, they got stung by bees and wasps so badly that they cried painfully. Brahman could not find the way out, and then asked: "Hey, You bloody guys, where are you all going"?

The amphibian replied:"We fight the war". Brahma descended from the seat, failing to look beneath his feet and stepping on a water melon. He fell onto the ground and was pressed hard on the neck by the two rattans. The bees started to bite him so painfully that he was forced to kneel down before the animals and the plants, saying: "I surrender!

Upon hearing this, the frog commander ordered the soldiers to stop fighting in response to the surrender request. The frog asked the defeated Brahma: "Why do you prevent rainfall for all lives on the planet, causing deaths everywhere? We are frustrated. If you do not allow the rain to fall, we will destroy your castle and kill your army and even you".

Brahma felt so frightened that he plied with the army of animals and plants: "Dear friends, I am scared. I will provide rains right now. Please get back, don't be angry. The frog replied: 'No! If we leave, you will give us only a downpour, and then you will ignore it again. It will just make it difficult for our army to come back. So you must give us a special blessing spew will be satisfied".

After thinking for a while, Brahma said: "I agree to give you a special blessing. So when you need rains, you the frogs and toads will grind your teeth to produce sound up from the ground, I will pour immediately". After receiving the pledge, the army of animals and plants retreated to their respective territory.

Since then, when frogs and toads need rains, they can grind their teeth to produce the sounds like 'krot, krot; ep, ep; oak, oak; hing hong, hing hong. .. Then the rain starts to pour down.

THE END
