THE UNPAID GUARDS

In the past, our gardens were populated by many kinds of frogs.

The frogs also lived in the rice fields. In the rainy season, in the evening when the cows went to the shed, ka-ats cried loudly to announce the night to come.

Every night, when it rained, frogs welcomed the rain with their loud voices. This noisy sound and the cool temperature made the people feel good.

These animals were very useful. They ate pests. They were very good guards and they never asked for any payment.

With no pests, the vegetables and rice grew well.....

And produced delicious leaves, flowers, fruits and grain.

But people were very ungrateful. They did not only take care of the frogs, but they also killed them to eat and to sell.

To kill them, they used all local instruments such as the santouch, the angrut, the lorp. And they used the genocide instrument, the electric battery.

Today these frogs have become almost extinct. No more ka-ats cry at the sunset! No more frogs cry at the rain! No more guards in the gradens and rice fields!

Pests have now become powerful. They eat and destroy the plants at will.

To protect the plants, farmers use pesticides.

The chemical pesticides have a very negative impact. They are expensive. So there is less income from the plants.

The chemical pesticides are poisonous. So, using them without protector makes the farmers very sick.

The pesticides also poison the environment. When the enviroment is poisoned, so are the people.

So frogs are far better than chemical pesticides. if we have them, we save money.

With them, our environment is healthy and so are we.

They are our friends. They are the guardians of our plants. The volunteer guards who ask for no payment.

THE END
