SMALL TORTOISE

After a wildfire happened in a summer, a small tortoise tried to crawl ahead with its shell burnt and looked like a piece of charcoal. The tortoise had to move out in a far distance without water and food. After traveling for a long period of time, he arrived in a forest where he bore strong hopes. He moved into the grass there to seek green water convolvulus.

Unknowing of locations in the forest, the tortoise heard strong voices, "Huh! Who dare to keep a piece of charcoal at my sleeping area?" It is the voice of an old lion who has always thought of his personal interests. Hearing so, the small tortoise was frightened to urinate, thinking that, "It is finished for me, now. If I died in the fire, it would be better than to die here."

The lion's shouting alarmed his subordinates who appeared to ask him, "What's the matter, Lord?" The lion replied loudly, "Who dared to keep the charcoal - in my sleeping palace? You all get it away and break it into pieces."

Hearing so, the tortoise was forced to emit three pieces of his excrement. The lion was even angrier when he smelt the excrement, asking then that, "What's wrong? Why it has bad smell?" Everybody there was quiet and dare not to move their bodies.

During that time, the tortoise spoke to the lion with low voices, "Dear Lord." The lion was then trying to notice who was speaking. The small tortoise tried to raise his hands and legs and moved out his head, repeating that, "Lord, I'm here."

The lion asked the tortoise, "Who are you? Why are so brave to be here?" The small tortoise answered tremblingly, "Lord, I was under fire to an extent that my body was almost cooked." The lion burst into laugh, "Hah ...! My subordinates! Take him away for further cook and serves him as my appetizer." Hearing so, the tortoise was so afraid and pleaded, "Lord, please set me free. I will be grateful to and repay you for my whole life."

The lion spoke angrily to the tortoise, "I'm a King of animals here. You are so small; how could you repay me, huh?" The lion continued, "Today you have made me burst into laugh. I'll release you, but you have to move far away from here, and don't let me see you again."

The tortoise immediately thanked the lion and got out promptly.

The tortoise traveled and reached a lake. He lived there until his shell recovered. One day, when the tortoise was seeking for foods, he heard, "Helps!!!" He crawled to the scene and saw the lion was being trapped and fallen into a hole where he was nearly drowned. The tortoise said, "Huh! Lord!" The tortoise suggested that, "Lord, please don't shout so loudly; otherwise, your sound would be heard." The lion spoke angrily to the tortoise, "If I didn't shout how my subordinates could hear it? You go to notify them, now."

“My legs are short, so I could not run fast. Please, let me help you," the tortoise replied. The lion said hopelessly that, "Hmm! May be I'm dead when you could help me." The tortoise then tried to bite the trap until the lion could be released. The lion then rushed out of the traps and turned to tortoise smilingly. "Thank you! We'll be friends forever. You look so good when your shell recovers like this,” he lion spoke to the tortoise.

The lion regarded the tortoise as his good friend ever since. The lion always came to invite the tortoise in person at the lake every time he had parties.
