Once upon the time, there was a tycoon who had only one child, who was unfortunately born as a pig. The parents were so disappointed. The child quickly learned to speak and walk and was very industrious. The parents did not know that in this pig there were extraordinary things. They were a magic bow and a sword.
One day, the pig spoke to his parents, [telling them] to look for a wife. Having heard this, the parents felt very frustrated, sighed heavily, and replied, "Son, how can I ask for the hand of a woman if you are an animal. If you were to be married to a pig like you, it would be no problem." The pig responded, "I won't marry a pig, but a woman! If you cannot find one for me, I will go searching for her on my own." Shortly after that, the pig did not say anything more, but left the house. The tycoon and the spouse were looking for him, but they could not find him. They were so sad, feeling sorry for their child.
As for the pig, before starting the journey, he dedicated it, [saying]: "May the Divinity led me to where my predestined wife will be." After saying that, the pig went into the forest for many days, and he met an aged lady who was digging yams alone. When he came close to her he asked, What are you looking for? Have you found it? Having heard the pig speaking, the lady was so glad and felt sympathetic.
And she responded, I was looking for yams, but I have found none. The pig asked further, “Where do you live? Is the grandpa alive? How many children do you have?" The old lady told the pig, "Grandson, my house is over there. The grandpa passed away a long time ago. I'm a widow with no son, but two daughters who have now reached their maturities. Hearing the old lady tell him that her daughters were single, the pig told her all about his story and asked her if he could stay.
The old lady thought to herself, "This pig can speak well like a human being, and he is good-natured. His parents are rich people. If he loves either of my daughters and she agrees, I shall arrange their marriage." Then she told the pig, "Help me search for yams." Immediately, the pig went into the forest searching for yams. Shortly after that, the pig dug out many piles of yams with his nose. The old lady followed him, picking up them and putting them into the two baskets. The pig asked the old lady to put the baskets on his back, and he followed her to her house.
The two daughters went to greet their mother when they saw her came out of the forest. She introduced the pig to her two daughters and unloaded the baskets from the pig's back. The daughters got close to their mother and whispered, "Where does the talking pig come from? The mother told them everything. Later on, the old lady's daughter got to know the pig when they went searching for yams together.
The old lady knew that her daughters had become intimate with the pig. She asked them what they thought about the pig. The older sister did not accept him, while the younger sister responded, "It is up to you, mom." Hearing that, she was so happy, and she told the pig about that. The pig was so happy. She organized the wedding between the pig and the younger daughter according to the village tradition. She arranged a separate house for the couple from that time on.
About half a month later, in the district, it was said that there would be a musical and dance performance there. Many old and young villagers were very excited and they ate dinner early in order to see the performance. The younger daughter who was the wife of the pig also wished to see the performance. She asked the pig to go with her, but he told her to go and he would stay at home. When she had got the consent from her husband, she then went with others.
Knowing that the wife had gone, the pig got out of the pig body cover in order to see the performance and rushed to reach there before her. Arriving there, he joined the performers; he also could perform like them. When the villagers and his wife were about to leave home, he immediately escaped and returned home to get into the pig body cover before she came back.
When she back home, he asked her, "How was the performance you watched, dear?" She described it and told him, “There is a good-looking performer who could sing and dance so well that everyone liked him.” The pig questioned her: "Was he wearing a blue skirt and a red shirt?” The wife responded, "Yes, that's right. How did you know that? Did you also go and watch the performance? The pig kept quiet. In fact, the younger sister and the pig were only in love through verbal contact, and didn’t have any physical contact in their relationship.
Another evening, the villagers were noisily going to see the performance again. She asked the pig to allow her to watch it. The pig agreed to let her watch it. Then, he got out of the pig body cover in order to join the performance band like the night before. “How was the performance this evening?” she responded, “Today is even better than the other day.” The pig responded, showing no reaction, “The best performer is the person who wears a blue skirt and a white shirt, isn’t he?” The wife wondered, “How do you know that?”
On the third evening, the younger daughter asked her husband to let her watch the performance like the night before and the pig also agreed. Aware that his wife had gone, the pig quickly got out of the pig body cover and w s about to leave for the performance. The wife did not stay for the whole performance, for she was very suspicious of her husband. Shortly after, she returned to observe her husband. She saw her husband get out of the body cover; he was the handsome and good-looking performer she had admired. Then, she ran to stop him from getting back into the cover. She begged him not to get back into the cover. The husband agreed, but he asked her to keep the body cover carefully. She put the body cover in the proper place as told by the husband. And they were living happily together.
One day, the country had no king. All the king's servants were searching for a blessed person to take the throne. At that time, the story of the pig was being told everywhere. Then, they invited him to reign over the country from that time on.
About half a month following the coronation, the King took his wife to visit his tycoon parents. The tycoon parents were so happy. They arranged a place to welcome the King and the King asked them how many children they had. The tycoon parents told the King, "We had only one son who is a pig and can ISPE3ak clearly like a human being. Once, he asked us to look for a wife. We told him we could not find one for him. He has been away for a long time. Hearing that the King told the tycoons everything. They were so glad and then hugged him together. They admired him for his greatness.
The King brought the tycoon parents to live with him in the palace. He also brought the aged lady to the palace. Though he had become fully a human being, he still had mercy for the pig, for he used to live as a pig previously. The King asked the wise men to set the pig as the 12th year and to name that year as the Year of the Pig.
